Whether you own a big multinational company or a local small-business, having good SEO is crucial for your website. Why? Well, since millions of people search online, daily for solutions for their problems, what best way to increase your business than to have Google suggesting you, as one of the first options?
However, as good as this sounds, achieving good SEO for your website is hard. It takes time, effort and (a lot of) knowledge. It involves a mix of both onsite and offsite optimization and some patience before you can see your website rank high.
The good news? There are some basic tactics that you can start implementing right now, on your website that will help you improve your SEO, and I’m going to share 8 of them with you, right now.
So if you want to increase your organic traffic and visibility read on.
Make it Mobile Optimized
I’m going to start with an obvious one. In fact, it’s so obvious that it shouldn’t be on this list. But unfortunately, the more websites I review in my market researches for my clients, the more websites I find with no mobile optimization whatsoever, thus giving the users a bad experience. And nowadays, in average 60% of web traffic is mobile, which means that 60% of your visitors will leave with a bad first impression!
I mean, can you imagine finding a possible solution for your problem, clicking on the search result, only to find yourself in a website where you have to side scroll everywhere?
So if your website isn’t mobile-optimized at this moment, stop everything that you’re doing and go fix it. Now. Not only it will hurt the conversion of your website, but Google will punish you for giving your users a bad experience.
Increase Your Page Load Speed
Remember how I said that Google will punish you for giving your visitors a bad experience? So, what can be more frustrating than waiting long periods of time for a page to load? And remember that a long time these days it’s a matter of seconds. With every additional second that your website takes to load, your bounce rate will increase.
Here are some tips on how you can improve this. First, images are one of the most impactful aspects of website performance. What you want to do here is to get the lowest file size while still maintaining an acceptable quality.
Then get rid of any unnecessary plug-ins that you are not using on your website. This is making your website heavier than it has to be.
Finally, make sure that you use caching of your website appropriately.
Use Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
These are some of the most basics and important aspects of onsite SEO optimization and it’s quite incredible how many businesses’ websites overlook them. Make sure that your pages all have well defined and keyword optimized titles since it’s the element with most weight when it comes to SEO optimization.
Optimize your headings for keywords as well, especially the H1 element which carries the most weight after the title.
Lastly, tweak all of your pages meta descriptions. This is the text that appears together with your page title in the search results. This element, if written properly will convince users to click on your link. So optimize it with keywords as well so that the chances of appearing higher increase.
Create Relevant Content
I couldn’t make an SEO tactics list without mentioning content creation. Although it takes a lot of effort to create content, it’s the backbone of any good onsite SEO strategy, since it’s probably the most important ranking factor.
If you want your website to rank high on search engines you have to create new content frequently. Simply put, the more content you create and post, the more traffic you will get. One of the main things it does is showing Google that your website is active. It will also increase the possibility of your content being shared which, in turn, will increase the number of backlinks to your website.
Try to figure out which are the most urgent questions in your industry and write content to answer them.
Get an SSL Certificate
One of the most overlooked aspects of the websites that I review for my clients is the presence of an SSL Certificate. Google punishes websites that don’t offer SSL security because they are insecure for their users. So make this one a priority for you and install one right now.
You will probably be able to get one from your hosting supplier so you can reach out to them for support.
Create Links Between Pages of Your Website
This is a great SEO strategy. Try to include links in your website that directs the visitor into important pages of your website using good and diverse anchor text. What is anchor text? It sounds very technical I know but it’s simply the clickable text that substitutes a link. Use keywords in your anchor text, as well as synonyms of your keywords to add some diversity to your anchor text.
And every time you post something new, include a link to older and relevant content as well.
Post on Your Social Media – a Lot
Do you want to get more traffic on your website? There’s no getting around social media. So try to post as much as you can, with a bare minimum of one post every two days.
Create content that is useful to your target audience and content that includes links to your website.
Creating backlinks to your website it’s a great offsite optimization and social media it’s a great way for that.
Make Your Content Shareable
This is a great way to have your visitors to create backlinks for you. So make it as easier as possible for someone to share your post by including share buttons on your articles.
To increase the number of shares include some Call-to-Actions (CTAs) at the end of your post to incentivize your readers to share it.
So, I hope that you have found this article useful and start implementing some of the SEO tactics here to increase your website organic traffic.
While some of them are more complex than others, all of them can be implemented without the help of an expert.
